Goji berry is a Chinese term that is named for a juicy reddish orange colored fruit produced by a thorny shrub called Lycium babarum. In modern English it has got the term as wolfberry. The plant of Lycium babarum is one among the ninety species of genus Boxthorn, called Lycium in Latin, and belongs to Solanaceae family of plantae kingdom. Other plants in Solanaceae family are potato, eggplant, tomato, tobacco, chili pepper etc. Goji berry’s origin is believed to be in the region of southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia, but now it is cultivated throughout the world. Today China is the largest producer of this fruit.
